Keith Walker, 53, a homeless man, didn’t hesitate to run into a burning animal shelter to save cats and dogs staying there.
On that night, Keith was on his way to pick up his dog for a walk. It was then that he noticed a fire at the W-Underdogs shelter.
Gracie Hamlin, W-Underdogs’ founder, described Keith as a ‘guardian angel’. She told CNN that the firefighters didn’t want to handle the dogs while the fire raged and called animal control. By the time they arrived, Keith had already rushed into the building without a second thought and pulled out every pet-animal – six dogs and 10 cats.
I was nervous as hell, I’m not going to lie. I was really scared to go in there with all that smoke. But God put me there to save those animals.KEITH WALKER
Keith, whose dog also slept at night at the shelter, said his dog, Bravo, is his best-friend. He explained how Bravo had helped him, and that is the reason he sprang into action to save the other animals.
She thanked the fire department and @fultonanimalservices officers for their quick response. She added she was grateful for the heartfelt response from the entire community.
The animal shelter was to move to a new facility one week after the fire, so the animals still have a home. Gracie confirmed the pets were safe and settling in well.
