For years, mothers of furbabies have been bought cards and thank you gifts from their “children”. Now, thanks to Dig, the dog person’s dating app, we can have our own Dog Mom’s Day just for us.
Oprah Winfrey has previously courted outrage. She suggested that Mothers Day could be used to celebrate mothers of “all varieties of children”. The social media post included a picture of a lady with dogs. However, not everyone was happy that Mothers Day should include non-human children.
So Dig decided that we should have our own day to be recognised without taking away from Mothers Day.
Dig used a petition on Change.org to request the day be recognised officially. Last year it was created on National Day Calendar as the second Saturday in May (the day before Mothers Day in the US). Dig says “The creation of this separate day will emphasize the respect for all moms and their right to showcase the love of their kids – fur or not”.
This year the date falls on Saturday 11th May, which is also National Eat What You Want Day. That sounds like a great combination to celebrate!
