Hank the dog has become the hero of its neighborhood after saving its owners and neighbors from a backyard fire, the Inside Edition reports.
Ulysses S. Cocksman, the dog’s owner, broke the story on his Twitter account saying that had it not been for Hank’s barking in the middle of the night, his family and neighbors would’ve been in grave danger.
The blaze originated from Cocksman’s shed and quickly engulfed the back of his house along with the neighbor’s fence but was put out by firefighters right before it could do any susbtantial damage.
“The fire spread to the back of our house the same minute the firefighters got the hoses to it. A minute or two more, and it was gone,” tweeted Cocksman.
Apart from becoming a hero and saving two families, Hank has another reason to rejoice.
“He can have all the shoes and steaks he wants, and I will never get mad at him for barking, ever again,” wrote Cocksman explaining that the fire happened only hours after his wife received a social media reminder that Hank ate her brand new slip-on six years prior.
The dog’s owner also praised the firefighters for quickly managing the fire despite unfavorable conditions.
In a similar case, reported by WGNO, a New Orleans bulldog named Buster alerted his sleeping owner of a serious fire that was engulfing their residential building.
The danger had come from a vacant neighbouring house, possibly accidentally set on fire by a homeless occupant.
Though nobody was injured, the blaze caused enough damage to the residential building to have 17 people looking for another place to stay.
