The UK is holding its first ever London Dog Week this week, with something for everyone! Sunday kicked off the celebrations with “The Year of the Sausage Dog” as the lovable Dachshund has been chosen as this year’s highlighted breed.
If Daxies aren’t your thing though, there are lunches and brunches for all, from a fashion show which will showcase the latest designs by independent brands to a Brexit debate for the more politically savvy pooch. There are events for children with storytelling and crafting, and opportunities to have your own dog health checked by experts.
Elsewhere there are organised group walks for different fitness levels, and seminars on first aid and pet parenting pains. If you can’t get time off work to play, local offices can even request a visit from The Cuddle Club, who will bring in a team of dogs to your workplace for some much needed cuddle therapy. This is to highlight the beneficial effects dogs can have on the mental health of people around them.
Many of the events include food, with special menus laid on for both dogs and their owners, and proceeds are donated towards various charities such as StreetVet and Plush Bears Shelter. It also aims to raise awareness and increase dog friendliness throughout venues in the city. Maybe this is something that should be considered in other cities too?
